Rail Bridge
Gerace Construction was in charge of the team to provide a Design/Build Proposal to reconstruct a 83 year old Rail Road Bridge. The objective was to bring it up to current AREMA standards to allow for safe rail travel. The work included a complete overhaul of the entire structure. The bridge was jacked up to allow for the concrete under the bearings to be reconstructed. The entire deck was reconstructed including replacement of over 200,000 lbs of structural steel. All Steel was fabricated in-house and galvanized prior to installation. Gerace removed and replaced over 2500 existing rivets. All remaining structural steel was blasted and repainted. Special concerns during the project included 100% containment for blasting and demo operations over the river. The entire process from initial design review to final completion was under 10 months.
